Snow Golf Swingers in Gstunning Gstaad

Ever swung a sporty golf club on the snow at the spectacular summit of the stylish Swiss slopes the sparkling spring sunshine?  The experience ranks right up there with one's first... kiss.
I had the good fortune of presenting our wines to participants at the first Boerl & Kroff Snow Golf tournament in Gstaad this weekend.  For those who are not habitués of B&K champagne (at 4000euros+ a bottle) or Snow-Golf in Gstaad (le posh du posh), this is an ultra-exclusive and ultra-fun event that takes place once a year.   The delightful duo of Stephane Sese and Patrick Sabate’,  partners-in-crime behind this most exquisite other-worldly nectar (two drops of B&K liquid pleasure once kissed my privileged lips), managed to put everyone at ease—and the perfect weather did the rest.  We headed up early to the top of the Wispile Mountain where much-needed coffee, croissants and a nine-hole circuit awaited us. My own golf skills, or lack thereof, kept me out of the competitive running, but I had vicarious thrills:   my lovely and much more sporty friend/travel companion Flavia Alzetta and her team-mate Nelson Monfort, the renowned and highly respected TV sports journalist, won the trophy.  I liked it so much I feel very motivated to get myself a proper handicap by next year’s tournament – can one download those from some clever website?   Growing up with intellectual, culturally-minded parents (read: fancy euphemism for “not athletic”), I came to sports later in life.  The silver lining is that unlike most people I’m actually more fit now than in my youth (from a very low base), though in absolute terms, I’m a complete rookie.  So for those of you with a sensible handicap:  Boerl & Kroff Snow Golf rocks! The rest of us had to earn our stripes on the dance floor of the Gstaad Palace disco—finally back on my turf!
