SUSTAINABILITY (IN A NUTSHELL)

For us, sustainability is not only about making organic, regenerative, wines; our engagement goes way beyond that. This natural landscape in the heart of the UNESCO Biosphere is so particular that it invites more than a standard vision. Our location provides a treasure-trove of priceless natural riches, from exciting endemic yeasts to multi-layered wildflowers to extravagant biodiversity, including endangered species…., a veritable ‘Jurassic Park’ of micro-organisms. We have developed innovative measures to allow our environment to thrive - it would be vandalism against Mother Nature to do otherwise.
— Jean-Louis Gallucci, Chêne Bleu

PIONEERING PURITY

To bring to fruition our aspirations of Grand-Cru-level winemaking and ground-breaking regenerative practices, we have worked for over a decade to transform the derelict, parched vineyard into a temple of biodiversity.  We take a holistic approach: combining science, empiricism, and ethos. What started with the introduction of natural practices — first organic, then biodynamic — has now gone much further: planting a bamboo forest to filter wastewater, creating the SustainaBEElity project, experimenting with propolis from our beehives as a natural disinfectant, and much more.

CHÊNE GREEN

CHÊNE GREEN

By virtue of our isolation and our unique terroir, we're able to experiment with all sorts of initiatives.  From the outset we shunned chemicals and started using organic, then biodynamic, practices.  Because of Xavier’s long-standing personal commitment to land conservation and restoration, we embarked on regenerative and sustainable viticulture from the first vintage. Even if — to quote Kermit the Frog — it's not easy being green, few things are more satisfying in viticulture experimentation than breaking new ground.  This section maps out an aerial view of our numerous initiatives and lists our multiple certifications and awards.

Wildlife

Located in the Mt Ventoux Natural Park and UNESCO nature reserve, we are spoiled by the abundance of furry and feathered forest fauna: wild boars, deer, leporidae, peregrine falcons, bearded vultures, Grand Duc owls, and Bonelli’s eagles all make their homes here.  To our delight, dozens of species have returned here since we started implementing sustainable practices.

SUSTAINABEELITY

We get to collaborate with scientists and other likeminded winemakers who have joined our study of how bees can help make better wine.  Our estate has been a buzzing hive of activity and experiments as we continue to build a global community of people who enjoy drinking wine but also appreciate our environmental efforts.
