A YOUNG WINERY GROWING ON ANCIENT ROOTS
This year’s themes are inspired by the 20th anniversary of our first vintage. The estate dates back 1100 years to the 9th century. The name was changed in 1427 to La Verriere by Aliot de Montvin, a glassblower, almost 600 years ago. Xavier Rolet purchased the estate in the early ‘90s and we spent a decade restoring the abandoned vineyard and building the winery. In September 2006, our grapes were harvested for the first time into our own tanks; next year will mark the birth of our first wine. 20 years of blood, sweat and tears regenerating the land and taking the high-altitude terroir to new heights.
From the start, Xavier, a conservationist at heart, was resolved to reviving this remote Ventoux vineyard and reimagining what responsible, regenerative, refined winemaking could be. It’s been a study in how patience, precision, and progressive practices can reshape both land and liquid: Earlier picking, agile adaptation, and altitude-aware agriculture have all played their part in preserving freshness, fragrance, and finesse in the fruit. This results in wines that remain beautifully balanced despite the broader environmental pressures—a testament to both terroir and tenacity. And in the glass, the transformation is tangible, aiming to reflect the bold ambition to make a collection of wines that are pure, poised, and profoundly pleasurable.
We will begin the celebrations with a retrospective of our first Chêne Bleu vintages. We’ll raise a glass to the people like you who have encouraged and supported us, and also to vintners who are moving away from artificial additives and persistent pesticides, joining the urgent conversations, and protecting microbial life thanks to cover crops and bees that protect the well-being of consumers, community and climate.
Walk-ins are also welcome; feel free to come and browse the shop.
